Pfizer also is cutting its sales force from five in the past year. It has been accused of illegally promoting Viagra to patients.
Viagra is a PDE5 inhibitor that relaxes blood vessels and increases blood flow to the penis, the pharmaceutical company said.
In a statement, Amgen said the cut in sales was “designed to help Pfizer continue to maintain profitability while lowering its generic drug costs.”
The company said it believes the drugmaker “remains confident” that the U. generic drug pricing strategy “will result in lower prices” for the drug.
Amgen’s move could be a signal that it is considering a “reGA” approach to its pricing strategy.
In January, Pfizer halted a planned drug study that recommended that men between the ages of 18 and 64 pay a 30% to 50% lower price for their erectile dysfunction drugs.

It is not clear whether Pfizer is seeking a legal settlement to resolve Amgen’s patent infringement suit.
